Plumbers Local Union 130 UA Opens Wellness & Vision Center for Members and Their Families

KANSAS CITY – August 5, 2019 – Plumbers Local Union 130 United Association (UA) officially opened its Wellness and Vision Center in the southwest Chicago area where members and their families can receive health and care services as a part of their union benefits. The health center will be managed by Cerner Corporation, which brings years of experience and expertise in developing and operating workforce health programs.

“This is an exciting new chapter for our members, who will have greater access to the care and support they need throughout their health journey,” said Plumbers Local Union 130 UA Business Manager James Coyne. “Local 130 has provided the Chicago area with expert plumbing craftmanship for over a century, and to be able to offer our hardworking members and their families convenient, reliable health care is an important part of ensuring they can continue to do the work they do for the community.”

The Wellness and Vision Center will offer members services including urgent and preventive care, chronic condition management, health education and risk awareness. Cerner’s health centers focus on keeping members and their families healthy and reducing the need for costly emergency room and urgent care visits, while providing a unique benefit to members.

“We’re committed to addressing and solving health care needs throughout the community, which is why it’s important we deliver the best health care experiences for Local 130 and their families,” said Cerner Population Health Services Vice President Mike Heckman. “Through the opening of this wellness center, we look forward to delivering optimal outcomes for Local 130 members using innovative care models, the expertise of health professionals and a history of managing the health of workforce populations across the country.”

The center will also offer the Cerner Motion HealthSM technology, which aims to identify the sources of musculoskeletal issues to proactively address the needs of an individual. The motion capture system is a 12-movement musculoskeletal screening using the latest marker-less 3D motion capture technology. Results are interpreted by a health care provider who generates a personalized rehabilitative plan.

The health center will pair high-quality clinical services with advanced technology. Cerner’s big data and insights platform, HealtheIntent®, will encourage members and their families to proactively manage their health through a comprehensive electronic health record and an online health portal. In addition to the services managed by Cerner, members will have access to vision care through an on-site optometrist.

The first Wellness and Vision Center is located in Lemont, Illinois, with plans to open a second location at a later date.
